SEAGROVE -- The Celebration of Seagrove Potters is pleased and excited to announce the placement and celebration of their first signs promoting their inaugural festival. Tuesday, August 12th, at 11:00 am, the festival signs will be placed in front of its new home at the historic Luck's cannery on Pottery Highway in Seagrove. Potters and community members are encouraged to come out and share in the excitement.

The Celebration of Seagrove Potters was formed in early June when a group of Seagrove Potters decided to organize a festival that showcased the potters of the actual Seagrove area. Many factors lead to this decision, the most important being the desire of many Seagrove artists to work together to protect the unique and authentic pottery community that has taken generations to build. The festival to be held November 22-23, 2008 will offer shoppers a one stop, indoor shopping opportunity to purchase clay work made only along the Pottery Highway in the area defined authentically as Seagrove.

The festival will be held in the historic Luck's Cannery, which was established in the 1950's. Luck's specialized in pinto beans and other canned vegetables and food products and employed many Seagrove families. The initial purpose of the company was to perform home canning. People from the Seagrove area would bring garden vegetables and other locally grown food to the plant for canning. Today, Luck's celebrates the opportunity to continue in the original spirit by hosting the festival dedicated to the Potters of the Pottery Highway, a new way to help families of Seagrove earn their living and continue to provide a future for the community. Festival visitors will find ample parking, indoor bathrooms, a selection of food, educational opportunities and much more.

The inaugural Celebration of Seagrove Potters festival has received strong support from potters and the community at large. Sponsors include: Randolph Tourism Development Authority, Community One, Skutt Kilns, Williams Supply, Advisors Financial Center, Richard and Susan Garkalns, Insurance Associates of the Triad and the Randolph Arts Guild, with more coming on board each week. It is anticipated that this festival will offer a new level of professionalism and creativity.

The Celebration of Seagrove Potters will be held on November 22-23, 2008, with an opening night gala on Friday, November 21, 2008. The festival website www.CelebrationOfSeagrovePotters.com will provide continual updates and information.
